I wish I could capture and record every time you amaze me with your level of intellect. And the fact that you are only 5 years young is what makes it all the more incredible.
Yesterday I showed you a new album by the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets (Carpe Diem, Moonman). This was the first time you’ve listened to the band, and you had such a good laugh at their name. I omited porn from their band and told you the name of this band was the “Psychedelic Crumpets”… which we both thought was the funniest name in the world.
Anyways, me, you, and Adin had to drive to Home Depot to pickup an interior door for one of the rentals, and while driving I played this new album for you. The very last song on the album starts with the sound of someone grabbing their car keys off a table, then walking to the car and turning it on before turning on the radio and getting into the actual song.
It’s a beautiful song. It feels nostalgic, but in a happy kind of way.
Later that night while playing in your room before bed, I was humming the melody to this song.
You stopped and looked at me, and at 5 years young, only having heard the song once during a brief car ride after also listening to several other songs before, you said to me “is that the song with the keys?”
At first I had no clue what you were talking about. I replied to you, “the song with the keys? What do you mean?” To which you said, “the song with the keys at the beginning of it…”
After thinking on it for a brief moment, it dawned on me that you remembered that exact detail and knew the exact song I was humming. I was truly astonished. You have to understand, especially as a 5 year old, this is no small feat.
I was humming a 3-second melody, and based on that alone you knew the exact song.
I told you, “Elisha, that is remarkable that you know that… what in the world… wow!” To which you replied with a smile and said, “… but don’t tell mommy that I said that!”
Anyways, this is just one tiny thing in the grand scheme of how much you impress me on a daily. I’ll make it a point to start keeping better track of it more often, as I think you will greatly appreciate me capturing these moments in these writings one day from now.
